Rakuhoku SSH

Rakuhoku SSH Program

Rakuhoku has been designated as a "Super Science High School" (SSH) by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The SSH program promotes advancing science and technology through science and mathematics education. The SSH program also cultivates scientific abilities and critical thinking skills in order to foster students who will be able to lead society in the future.
Rakuhoku first received the SSH designation in 2004, for a three-year period. Since then, Rakuhoku has maintained the SSH designation across five-year periods starting in 2007, 2012, and 2017. Most recently, in 2022, Rakuhoku received its fourth renewal for the SSH program's revamped three-year period.
The SSH designation benefits Rakuhoku High School's general science, sports and humanities courses as well as Rakuhoku's attached middle school.

About our SSH Research and Development (2022-2025)

● Overview
As the front-runner of the next generation of science and technology research, the "Attitude of Inquiry" and skills required of high school students will be positioned in a multilayered curriculum and developed in an organized manner. In addition, we will develop curriculum design and generalize the methods of organizational implementation, and construct and disseminate a "Kyoto Science Community."

● Objectives and Goals
To develop educational programs, which foster scientific and technological front-runners, the following three areas of study are tackled:

I. Development and practice of curriculum design to cultivate a culture of independent inquiry and scientific mindset.
II. Generalization of organizational management to support inquiry practice using "Rakuhoku Step Up Matrix."
III. The goals of the "Kyoto Science Community" are to disseminate inquiry practices and build a cooperative system among schools.
