Hello!

Thank you for visiting Joyo High School's webpage. My name is Ben Murphy and I'm the Assistant English Teacher (AET) at Joyo High School as a participant in the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program. I am an American from Phoenix, Arizona. I graduated from Arizona State University in 2016 with degrees in economics and philosophy and worked for the Arizona State Legislature prior to joining the JET Program in August 2019. My role as an AET is to provide an environment where Joyo SHS students learn about American culture, advance their English communication abilities, and enhance their curiosity about the world beyond Japan.

Joyo High School takes pride in its efforts to enhance its students' international understanding. These efforts include an English Speaking Society Club to explore students' deep interest in the Anglophone world, hosting high school and college students of foreign nations and sister cities, holding lectures on international education, and organizing school trips abroad. Joyo High School students enjoy sharing their culture with foreigners through games, calligraphy, art, food, sports, and many other Japanese cultural fixtures.
