I have come to realize a big change in Japanese society since the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011. The young people have the power to break the feeling of stagnation and build a new era, which is needed at this historical point.

Our mission statement established in 2010 is to mold "a human being who is independent." Being independent means to think and act responsibly for yourself without the influence of old ways and old common sense.

Our school is a public high school which inherits the history of Kyoto Prefectural Kyoto Second Middle School (old educational system) established in 1900. The spirit of Kyoto Second Middle School was "balancing academics and athletics" and "simplicity and fortitude" and is still alive in our school.

Our educational policies are expressed by three concepts.

Humanity
Pioneer Spirit
Self Command

It is school spirit like ours that has molded young people with the desire to make Japan what it is now since the storms of Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras.

Now it is a time to challenge students to do something new based on these concepts and traditions. Students who have discipline, continue to strive, understand themselves, cooperate with others, set dreams and goals and realize them as members of society, will create a new era, have a supporting network of people and lead a rich life.

In our school, enthusiastic and competent teachers have been working on educational activities which develop the students' abilities, draw out their talents, give them a sense of accomplishment and help students' dreams come true. We encourage students to be independent and play important roles in society.

Furthermore, based on the tradition and history of our school, we understand the role of our school, and carry out characteristic educational activities and aim to be dependable for students, their parents and community.

I appreciate your understanding and your support to our educational efforts so far and from now on.
