ALTのMitchell先生が７月いっぱいで本校での勤務を終えるにあたり、７月18日の全校集会で退任式を行いました。
Mitchell先生には2022年から約２年間本校でお世話になりました。以下はMitchell先生からのお別れの言葉です。
Hello everyone!
Two years have gone by so quickly. A lot can change in two years. When I learned I was coming to Japan, I was so excited. It had been a dream of mine to live in Japan since I was a kid. I never knew how long I had planned to stay here, even though many people asked me that question.My love for Japan has deepened greatly after being here, and I know how incredibly lucky I have been to have had this experience and achieve my childhood dream. The food, people, sightseeing, and much more have been amazing.
So, a question you might have is “Mitch sensei, if everything is amazing and you’re living your dream, why are you leaving?” I don’t know if this will make sense but the biggest reason is because I felt like it was right. When I knew I would be leaving, I realized a phase of my life was ending and a dream was completed.
Now it is time for me to head into an unknown, and find something new to have a dream about. Remember, just because you achieve your dreams, doesn’t mean you can’t have another one and do something else. This will be true forever no matter how old you get. Keep dreaming.
I enjoyed being at this unique school and being able to be with you all. I hope I was able to help you in some way, even if for a moment, even if it wasn’t with your English.
To end, I want to let everyone here know that if you ever need help with English, a visit to America, especially Utah, or anything else, please reach out to me! I would be glad to help you.
I appreciate everything the principal, vice principals, co-workers, front office, and students have done for me while I have been here. I wish you luck in the future in all that you do.
あっという間の２年間でした。２年間あればいろんな変化があります。日本に来られると分かった時は、とても嬉しかったです。日本で暮らすことは、子どもの頃からの夢だったからです。どのくらい日本にいるつもりかと聞かれることもありましたが、全く決めていませんでした。
日本へ来てから、私の「日本愛」はさらに強くなりました。日本に来て、子どもの頃の夢を叶えることができたことは、とてもラッキーだったと思います。「食べ物」「ひと」「観光」、などなど、全てが素晴らしかったです。
ですから、皆さんは思うかもしれません。「ミッチ先生、全てが素晴らしくて、夢の生活をしているのなら、なぜ帰ってしまうの」と。これで、分かってもらえるか分かりませんが、一番の理由は、そうすることが正解だと感じたからです。帰ることが決まった時、私の人生の１つのフェイズが終わり、夢が達成されたような気がしました。
今は未知の世界に飛び込み、新しい夢を探す時だと思っています。忘れないでください。夢を達成した後でも、また別の夢を持ってもよいのです。これは年齢を重ねても、言えることだと思います。「夢を持ち続けましょう。」
この特色ある学校で、みなさんと御一緒でき、楽しかったです。英語のことでなくても、ほんの一瞬であっても、何か皆さんの役に立つことができていればと思います。最後に、皆さんに伝えておきたいのは、もし英語のこと、アメリカに（とりわけユタ州に）旅行に来るとか他のどんなことでもいいので、何かヘルプが必要な時は、連絡してください。喜んでお手伝いします。
校長先生、副校長先生、先生方、事務室の方、そして生徒の皆さんが私にしてくれた全てのことに対して、感謝申し上げます。皆さんの将来に幸運が訪れることをお祈りしています。
