Edo Period

During the Azuchi-Momoyama period, the southern Yamashiro region was wiped out of the Kokujin and other forces, and land inspections and the separation of soldiers and farmers were carried out.In the Edo period, new farming tools were devised in rural areas, and productivity gradually increased. New rice field development began to take place even in mountainous areas.
In addition, water transport along the Kizugawa River continued to flourish, and large stones that would become the cornerstone of Osaka Castle were transported. In the Edo period, wood cypress and firewood and charcoal were transported to Kyoto and Osaka.
In addition, on the premises of our museum, there is a large stone of stone wall of Osaka Castle left behind during the transport, and it is on display.
On the other hand, the Kizugawa River frequently flooded and caused great damage. From the mid-Edo period onward, the cultivation of tea called “Sencha” spread throughout the southern Yamashiro region, and tea became the representative product of the southern Yamashiro region.
