Exhibition guide

Minami-Yamashiro region has an alluvial plain of the Kizu river and Uji river basins with long-stretched hills on both sides in the background. This region has prehistoric culture and excellent early Buddhist culture by ancient clans. At one time a royal castle was built there. As this region was located halfway between Heizyo and Heian capitals, there still remain a lot of historic ruins of outstanding Buddhist culture and the people’s lifestyles.
The history and cultural characteristics of the Minamiyamashiro region are displayed in a comprehensive and easy-to-understand manner in the permanent exhibition.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also offers project exhibitions and special exhibitions with different contents each year.
