“Elegant Green -Archaeology of color-”

Magatama, green-glazed pottery, celadon… Archaeological materials with a “green color” were often valuable items throughout history and also had been admiyed for every people.
This exhibition shows archaeological materials with a “green color” from the Jomon period to the early modern period, excavated from the Yamashiro region, and explores the charm of their coloration.

We hold various events throughout the year!
Children’s Workshop
In summer and autumn we hold hands-on classes for elementary and junior high school students.
Listening to the curator’s commentary, they learn how to make ancient money “wado-kaichin”,“magatama”, comma-shaped jewels (stones) used to make necklaces, “sannkaku-ennshinnzyu-kyou”,triangular-rimmed ancient mirrors decorated with gods and animals, as well as “dohtaku”, bronze bells.
