Muromachi period

The civil war between the Northern and Southern Courts, which destroyed Kasagi-dera Temple, turned the southern part of the Yamashiro region into a battlefield.
From among them, village-dwelling samurai called Kokujin, such as the Kizu clan, Koma clan, and Tanabe clan, emerged and expanded their power.

In the late 15th century, the Onin and Bunmei War once again turned the southern part of the Yamashiro region into a battlefield, but the people who united around Kokujin expelled the military and established local autonomy. This is the so-called Yamashiro Province Ikki.
Performing arts such as festivals and Nembutsu dance became popular in the villages, and these performing arts have been passed down to the present day.
