Presented here are the days of the week in Japanese Sign Language. The signs closely resemble the Chinese characters used to write the days.

1. Monday 月曜日　（げつようび）

The right index finger and thumb are held together to the right of the face with the rest of the fingers closed. The hand slowly moves down and away from the face while the fingers part and then reconnect to outline the crescent moon (the Chinese character used for Monday).

2. Tuesday 火曜日　（かようび）

The right fist is held by the right hip with the thumb and pinky finger extended. It then moves up while twisting back and fourth at the wrist, resembling the Chinese character for fire (used to represent Tuesday).

3. Wednesday　水曜日　（すいようび）

The open right hand, palm up, starts at the top of the left shoulder and moves to the right across the chest bobbing up and down like waves of water.

4. Thursday　木曜日　（もくようび）

Both hands are held in front of the stomach with the index fingers and thumbs extended and the others closed. Both are moved up from the starting position, ending at head level. This motion represents the outline of a tree, which is the Chinese character used for Thursday.

5. Friday　金曜日　（きんようび）

Make an OK sign with the right hand and place the touching tips of the thumb and index fingers next to the right corner of the mouth. Twist the wrist as if picking the teeth with a toothpick. This sign alludes to gold used in dentistry.

6. Saturday　土曜日　（どようび）

Starting in front of the left shoulder, touch the tips of the index and middle fingers to the thumb with the other fingers closed and the palm down. Move the hand across the body to the right shoulder while rubbing the touching fingers and thumb together. This should look like one is spreading dirt held in the palm of the hand on the floor.

7. Sunday　日曜日　（にちようび）

The right index finger is drawn across the bottom lip, from left to right then the hand is placed palm down into the open left hand with the palm up in the center of the chest.
